WhatsApp can already redraw your photo with AI — before you even hit send

In March 2026, Meta rolled out "Photo Touch-Up" worldwide inside WhatsApp — a Meta-AI-powered photo editor built directly into the chat composer. Type a sentence describing what you want changed (remove something, swap the background, change the whole mood, or reimagine the photo entirely) and the AI rebuilds the image to match, without leaving WhatsApp or opening a separate app. It's free, built into the WhatsApp you already have, on both iPhone and Android.

The exact clicks

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp (אפליקציית WhatsApp) installed.
  2. Open a chat like you normally would, and tap the photo/attachment icon to pick a photo — the same way you'd normally send one.
  3. Before sending, look for the new edit button (עריכה) in the photo composer screen.
  4. Type a sentence describing what you want changed — for example, "remove the bag in the background" or "make it look like sunset."
  5. Wait a few seconds while the AI rebuilds the photo to match what you typed.
  6. Review the result. If it's not right, you can usually type a follow-up instruction to adjust it again before sending.
  7. Optional: if you're happy with the original, just skip the edit button entirely and send the photo like you always have — this step is not mandatory.

What changes

  • Verified live (4.10.2026): the March 2026 worldwide rollout of WhatsApp's Photo Touch-Up, corroborated across itechguides.com ("Meta AI on WhatsApp: Features, Privacy and Limits in 2026"), techpoint.africa, and greentick.ai's 2026 WhatsApp AI features guide — cross-checked, not a single source.
  • Two other live-searched candidate topics were checked and rejected before writing this episode: ChatGPT group chats (confirmed wound down starting 9.7.2026) and ChatGPT Instant Checkout (confirmed retired March 2026, six months after its September 2025 launch) — both would have been scripts about dead features, the exact episode-18 "ChatGPT agent mode" mistake this channel checks for every time.
  • The exact in-app flow above (edit button inside the photo composer, before sending) is sourced to the independent reporting above rather than a first-hand Meta support-page citation — flagged honestly in Limits below, the same way episode 57 distinguished a sourced claim from a first-hand demo.

What it will not do

  • This feature's real-world accuracy (how well it follows a specific instruction, how it handles complex edits) was not independently tested by this channel — the claims here are sourced to WhatsApp's own rollout and independent reporting, not a first-hand benchmark.
  • It's a fast in-chat touch-up, not a replacement for a real photo-editing app — for anything beyond a quick fix before sending, use a dedicated editing tool.
  • Exact menu labels and button placement can shift between WhatsApp app versions — if you don't see the edit button described above, make sure your app is fully up to date first.
