ChatGPT can now see every subscription draining your bank account

ChatGPT has a real feature called Finances: connect your actual bank accounts, cards, and investments through Plaid, and it lays out your spending, every recurring subscription, and what's coming up — all in one dashboard. It's read-only: it can't move money, pay anything, or place a trade.

The exact clicks

In ChatGPT, open 'Finances' from the left sidebar and select 'Get started' — or type '@Finances, connect my accounts' in any conversation.
Follow the secure Plaid flow to log into your bank, card, or brokerage account (12,000+ institutions supported, including Chase, Amex, Schwab, Fidelity, Robinhood, and Capital One).
Wait a few minutes while ChatGPT syncs and categorizes your accounts, then open the Finances dashboard to see spending, subscriptions, upcoming payments, and portfolio performance.
Look specifically at the subscriptions view — it consolidates every recurring charge across your connected accounts in one place, including ones you may have forgotten you're paying for.
To disconnect at any time: go to Settings → Apps → Finances and remove the connection. OpenAI states your synced data is deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days.
You can also view and delete ChatGPT's saved financial 'memories' directly from the Finances page, separately from disconnecting the account link itself.

What changes

Verified live (17.9.2026) directly against OpenAI's own product announcement (openai.com/index/personal-finance-chatgpt) plus independent press (TechCrunch, MacRumors, gHacks), cross-referenced: what the Finances dashboard shows, that it's explicitly read-only (can't move money, pay bills, or place trades), and the exact enable/disconnect steps.

What it will not do

As of this recording, Finances is live for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers in the United States only — not the Free tier, and not yet available globally.
It launched as a Pro-only US preview on 15.5.2026 and was reported to expand to Plus users by around 25.6.2026 — availability by plan may keep changing as OpenAI continues the rollout.
It cannot move money, pay bills, or place trades — it only reads and displays data from accounts you've connected; it does not replace a budgeting app that can act on your behalf.
